Happy Birthday: Cards to Show You Care

Whether it's handmade by a child, store purchased with fancy pictures,
or from a retail store with a coupon, everyone likes
receiving birthday cards in the mail, especially if they have a little surprise in them!

But, how do you remember to send them to everyone
on your long list of friends and family?

It’s pretty simple, really.

1- Compile a list of all the people’s names and birth dates you’d like to send a card to.

My list is not complicated- a handwritten note from last year’s calendar. :)    You could be even more organized and put the information into a spreadsheet by month and it could calculate their ages for you!  That way you’re sure to know how old each child is and get an age-appropriate gift.

2- Organize the names and birthdays by month.

3- Get together with your family once a month and sign or make cards.
This is the part that I really love!  Our church emphasizes the importance of family- creating strong, loving families and maintaining those relationships.  I think this is a great way to show love by gathering your immediate family together once a month at a Family Night and show other members of your extended family how much you love them with a simple card.  It's inexpensive and

4- Mail them at the beginning of each month and you’re (almost) always sure to get the cards there on time.  Even if you’re a little early, the recipient is sure to know you thought about him or her, took the time to send a handwritten card, and he or she feels loved.

February is almost over.  It’s the perfect time to start compiling your March list and impress your family by Getting it All Together.

Today’s inspiration came from my Sister-in-law.  (Thanks, Shanna!)

The Container Store Offers

Gasp!  The Container Store is doing demonstrations & giving away $15 Store More Cards!

Exciting, isn’t it?!?

Well, it would be much more exciting if I lived closer & could actually go.  ~Sigh~

Maybe you can go & check it the details for me.

Plus, now through May 6th they’re offering Rate and Review to Win!

It’s a chance to give your opinions on The Container Store products and then be entered to win a $500 Store More Card. That’s even more exciting!

I love The Container Store and try to keep myself away from there as much as possible . . . for my husband and my wallet’s sake! :)

Have you been there?  What products have you contained?

Take me next time you’re going!

The After-School-Crazies Tamed

If school papers stacked up to the moon, backpacks, jackets, and shoes have taken over your home maybe you’ll like this idea, too.

I saw it on Pinterest & I immediately told my husband, "This is what I've been thinking of, but hadn't quite put it together yet.  I WANT it."  :)

Do you remember the ultimate secret for organization?
Right!  It's that everything must have a place and then be returned to its home (by everyone who uses it) after every use.  (There's that "every" word again.  It keeps popping up....hummmm)

So, for things like school papers that come home daily & always wind up being clutter around the house, why not create a home for them?

That's what I love about this idea- it creates a home for essential and important things that's well-organized.

Why I LOVE this:
  •  Each child has a separate hook for his backpack that's spaced apart enough to avoid overcrowding.
  • Each child has his own file organizers to hold homework, papers, or special projects.  Now, normally I'm hesitant about these file folders because they can be HUGE clutter magnets.  So, although they look neat here, beware of the clutter bug creeping back in.
  • Plenty of room for jackets to hang.
  • Bonus storage shelf under this station.  It gives an extra place to put lunch boxes, shoes underneath, a seat, or just a place to get your things together.
  • A family calendar is also at the top so moms can reach it to keep events organized & keep little coloring hands far away.
  • A note station to keep everyone informed on grocery items that are out, words of encouragement, or other communication needs.

I'm putting this on my hubby's (and my) Honey-Do list  :)

Does this inspire you?  What are your solutions for the after-school-crazies?
